Finding Programmers

Published by Clifford at 12:55 am under Business

Obviously there’s no way I could learn to program an iPhone.  Sure, I could learn but would I want to?

Heck no.

I posted a neutral ad on Guru.com, to see if I’d get any responses.  Curiously enough, the only people to respond were from India.  This was some concern.  Not because it was a foreign country but the fact that many people complained that companies based in India have stolen ideas and run with them.  Even though they may sign a non-disclosure agreement, what legal recourse do you have against them?  They are based in India.  US trademarks and copyrights are vaguely honored.

Lord Google presented me with a list of US companies.  Out of the five I contacted, only two got back with me.  One company sales rep was based out of North Carolina.

NC:  Cliff, what is your budget for your application?
Clifford:  About $1,000.
NC:  Cliff, I have to be honest with you.  We won’t even look at your specification unless you have $10,000.  And you say this is a finance application?  That would easily run $20,000.

I had that mechanic sense again.  How in the world can this guy quote me numbers if he hadn’t even seen the specification?

You would think after I got off the phone that I’d be depressed.  Coming up with $20,000 for an iPhone application?  Kill the project?

But their number sounded so ludicrous that I knew there had to be someone else who could do it.

That’s when I met the Russians.  Fortunately Guru.com gave me a large list of customer referrals.  Believe me, I read them all.  Their worst comments seem to be certain applications being delivered 2 or 3 days late.  Big whoopie doo.  Their quote came in under my budget.

Great group of guys.  Straight shooters all the way.

"So what would it take to get you out of retirement?" my friend asked.
