It’s all about the story

A mother of a cancer plagued son was at wits end. Her son, fighting for his life and enduring god-awful amounts chemo-therapy, was bed ridden in a children’s hospital. His only real contact was with the family members who would come by and see him.
The mother decided to scrape together some money and buy him a wireless laptop computer. Every child is using email and instant messenger these days. This could be how her son could still see the outside world and feel a little less isolated.
As you can image, her son loved the laptop. He made quick use of all the instant messenger tools and was chatting with his friends. The sparkle in his eyes had returned, knowing that any one of his friends was always available for a chat and he could keep current with what they were doing.
Finally her son succumbed to the cancer.
In her grief, the mother had a moment of inspiration. If one laptop could bring her child so much joy, then she would make it her mission in life to bring a wireless laptop to ever cancer ridden child. She saw the joy in her own son’s eyes and she wanted to see that again and again and again.
This woman’s story moved me. So much so that I donated as much as I could. Within a few weeks, she wrote me a personal email thanking me for my donation and showing me a photo of one of the laptops going to a child.
Marketing. It’s all about the story.

This is very moving…
As a side note, I was going to e-mail this entry to my wife, but couldn’t find the e-mail this link… Do you have one? Am I blind? Burned out and waiting for the weekend? Yeah, probbably most of those options.
I finally got to catch up on your blog! I’m listening to the 4 hour work week on my commute to and from work right now… I see many of his philosophies coming through on what you talk about in your blog… You are living the dream dude!!!

Yeah, I’m a big fan of the 4HWW. His ideas seem to be relevant to modern times and more importantly the ideas work. Several of them I implemented into my daily life and have seen the results. Quite nice.
Yes marketing and sales are about telling a story. This was a great one - I just donated. Thanks for sharing it.
