User Testing

With the help of the Russians, the software has survived both alpha and beta testing. The next step was to do user testing.

Software design has always been an interesting preoccupation of mine. I really enjoy trying to figure out how to achieve the maximum with the minimal amount of clicks. It’s all about achieving the desired result in the shortest amount of time.

Using my iPhone as the test bed, nearly a dozen people were simply handed the application and told to use it. Eleven of them sailed through the application with minimal effort. One mumbled something about the “old days” and how the “damn buttons” were too small.

Things I can’t control.

After taking some notes about possible enhancements, I collected my iPhone and started to walk away.

Nearly half of them asked, “Wait, aren’t you going to ask me how much I would pay for that software?”

“No need to,” I replied. “I’m giving it away.”

If I had thought about it, I should have snapped a photo of their shock.

I would guess that your reader base might also be willing to act as testers for your new site.

@Steve: No doubt about that! Once the site is ready.
