Avoiding Fashion Faux Pas

I need your input.

Part of my business model involves an eBook.  Whether it may become a physical book or not has yet to be determined.  But initially, it’s going to be electronic.

Part of the advertising involves a graphic or something the prospect can look at.  I was surprised to find two different types of graphics, which represent books.

New 3D Design

New 3D Design

Cool, hip and trendy.  Gives the ebook a look of depth.

Traditional Design

Traditional Design

Traditional, established design.  Used by every major book selling website, including Amazon and Barnes and Noble.  People are use to seeing this.

My question: Which graphic type would be more likely to inspire you to buy the book?  Bonus points if you leave a brief comment explaining why.

I chose the 3D. It gives the feeling that you are getting something physically tangible instead of something digital.

I like the traditional, but I think you are trying to sway people. Smelling like garlic vs. a 4 hour work week? You and your subliminal mind games.

If it’s a physical book than use the traditional. If it’s an ebook, use 3-d. I’m thinking that’s pretty much the standard these days.

I like the traditional book the best because I’m a book lover and prefer a hardcopy - but I voted for the 3D because the traditional makes me feel like I’m buying a physical copy of the book, so I think that may be a bit decieving. The 3-d look just screams ‘electronic,’ …although the traditional inspires more warm & fuzzies for book-lovers like myself.
I would use the traditional to represent your book if and when you make a hardcopy version.

I like the 3-D one. But I don’t really think it would make a difference for me one way or the other. I’ve purchased a few e-books before and what made me buy them, was seeing what I would be able to learn or the valuable information I would obtain if I bought the book. I really like being able to read it as soon as I can download it without having to wait for it to be delivered. Instant gratification!!

The 3D picture completely seems fake to me. It just screams out “I’m an e-book!”
