Wordpress Plugin for iPhone

This internet thing is too cool.
Many moons ago, I announced that Wordpress would be used on my project. The fact this tool is open source has lead to a world-wide craze regarding all things Wordpress.
A part of my business model has been plaguing me. That being the mobile market. Part of my business strategy involves going into this “smart phone” arena. Blackberry, iPhone and also anything involving Palm or Windows Mobile. Now the iPhone does an excellent job of rendering websites. But most of my time is spent either zooming in or zooming out to move around the page, etc. For my site, I wanted it to just work on the screen without all that extra work.
Thus back into Wordpress I went, wondering if there was a way I could have pages rendered for mobile devices.
Well lookie what we have here. A free piece of software that does exactly what I need.
WTouch strips the entire website down, just leaving the bare necessities for navigation and viewing. The header graphic (or mast head) is torn out, along with right and left side bars. All that’s left: the content.
Perfect.
WTouch was installed on my blog, for testing purposes. So far the site has not ground to a halt nor has it appeared goofy. Either on the iPhone or in a normal web browser.
Thanks to some hidden functionality of the iPhone, I was able to take a screen shot to show what the website looks like on an iPhone (below). The thin bar across the top is customizable, along with all of the little icons. If anyone has left comments, you can see the red circle with the number of comments written in.
When we advance to the blog entry, the screen is automatically formatted to view the page and make the content readable. Scrolling down the page, you can see the comments.
- Home Page of Chez Cliff
- The Easy Bake Oven entry
- Carla making me hungry. Paty leaving all smiles behind.
A few years ago, this same feat could have been accomplished if a separate website had been built just for the mobile device. This means every time I want to change something, it would have to be changed in two places. Not only on the regular website but also on the mobile website.
Not any more.
Suddenly my workload became infinitely easier.
