Oh Yeah Babe

A few months ago, I pulled the trigger and bought a toaster oven.

My last experience with one of these creatures was years ago with my roommate.  It was a college relic, usually used to heat bagels.  I’ve never cared much for bagels and my memories of this toaster was the complete, crud covered heating coils.

Obviously technology has advanced and today toaster ovens are, in my opinion, something worthy of any home kitchen chef.

My primary reason for buying one of these beauties was not to make pop-tarts or heat up bagels.  It was because my 20 cubic foot stove took nearly 15 minutes to get to temperature.  After settling in at 400 degrees, I would slide a piece of fish into the oven.

Yes, one measly stinking piece of fish.

Now the same engineers who brought us Chernobyl and Three Mile Island also designed my stove.  The heat that pours out of that oven turned my little house into a giant oven.  When I pulled the eggs out of the refrigerator one morning, they were all cooked.

My new toy, aka the Easy Bake Oven, is heated within 5 minutes and doesn’t turn my little house into a sauna.

Bake, Broil, Toast and the ever so popular Rotisserie.  As a parting gift, a baking stone was included.  I’m not sure what I’m really suppose to do with a baking stone.  Someone suggested pizza but that’s not something I really do.

My use of butter has sky-rocketed.  Butter just tastes good on everything.  Once it’s softened, I mix in some white pepper or black pepper along with “Herbes de Provence” and viola!  A nice coating for the salmon before sliding it under the broilers.  Keeps the edges from drying out.

Cod, baked in a bath of soy sauce, ginger and garlic.

Bacon wrapped pork tenderloins are done nearly 10 minutes faster, thanks to the convection heating.  Faster cooking time means less chance of your meat coming out dryer than chalk dust.  If bacon and pork tenderloins sounds too dull, drizzle a lot a little maple syrup on top.

If you liked that post, then try these...

Could you bake batards with the stone? Then you could open up your own Quiznos.

Oh! Oh! Oh! I so want one of those.

If, however, our use of butter skyrockets (as has yourn) we’ll all slide into the Gulf of Mexico… darn.

P.S. Finally successfully added you to my reader-yeah~!

I recently got one of these too. Great for heating up stuff. I felt bad sticking a slice of pizza into my industrial sized oven.
