So Close

My lot in life: get so close yet be so far away.
The scenario: Saturday morning and there’s not hot water to be found. What do you do?
I can tell you what not to do: hire my contractor.
Thanks to some unorthodox plumbing work, the gas connector for the stove was 18 inches from the wall. Normally it’s 2 or maybe 3 inches. But the plumber felt 18 inches was appropriate. No way my new stove can connect to that. The stove would be in the middle of the kitchen, rather than off to the side of it.
My contractor offered to come back, cut the gasline to it’s normal length, and install the stove. Which he did. Here are the steps he followed.
Step 1: Shut off the gas to house
Step 2: Cut the pipe
Step 3: Connect shut off vale
Step 4: Connect stove
Step 5: Don’t restart water heater
Thankfully a friend from the coffee shop knew how to get the pilot light lit. Following the instruction manual, it appears I am unable to operate a button correctly. You can only do one thing with a button, right? Well, I failed. My attempts did nothing but produce high levels of frustration.
Saturday afternoon, I had a great work-out. Lots of frustration.
