Catching Up on Outstanding Issues

A few items to catch up on.

Plumbing

The hot water issue was finally resolved.  My heart was broken when the water heater replacement didn’t resolve the problem.  What was the problem was the broken shut-off valve.  It was broken nearly 90% closed.  Enough water would get into the tank for it to fill out.  But without the constant pressure, the water couldn’t get out and into the house.

Lake in the Bathroom

My first shower was a celebration.  The celebration quickly subsided however when the shower door was opened.  My bathroom floor is now doubling for Lake Mead.  The clowns installing the shower door didn’t properly seal the door.

Cable TV

Last Wednesday, the cable tv was turned on.  The remote control was wielded like a light-saber as I plopped onto the couch.  To accompany me on a voyage of mindless tv bliss: a glass of nice red wine.  Ten minutes later, I realized nothing was on tv and turned it off.

Is anyone besides me concerned that Roachel Ray dominates 50% of the air time?

Internet

No more pilfering the neighbors internet.  My router, last seen 3 years ago, has wound up missing.  My choice: put my router’s picture on a milk carton or purchase a new one.

Since Apple has started taking over my life, I purchased the Airport Extreme.  Once I finally got connected, I ran a wireless "Download Speed" test through CNet.com.  After running the test three times, I realized the Airport Extreme was a wise investment.

I can’t see how the AAPL wireless thingy can make that difference. I have one and it’s plugged into my real DSL modem. It couldn’t make the speed any faster than my ISP/modem is providing?

Rachel Ray is cute for about 4 minutes… then I want to punch her.

Moom, the router can’t make the connection any faster. Per their test, I should have a T3 pipeline into my house. Which I don’t.

But there is a limit as to how much data a router can transmit wirelessly. The Extreme uses the N-draft protocol and my MacBook has the N-draft wireless card.

Jared, Four minutes or four seconds: it’s all too long for me.

Oh, bummer! You actually didn’t need a new water heater yet? Well, at least you’re good for the next 15 years or whatever. Small consolation, I know.

Yeah, Rachel Ray irritates me beyond compare. I think she seems like a delightful person–it’s her “I used to be a cheerleader” voice that does it.

Trisha, I felt the same way when we realized the new water heater didn’t fix the problem. But when we looked inside the old one, it was completely rusted out. Sooner or later, it would have been replaced.

Cheerleader? I thought girls had to be popular or at least attractive in order to be a cheerleader. Maybe the coach had his beer goggles on that day . . .

[...]  After making approximately 50 phone calls, no longer was quality a concern.  Granted a screaming fast internet connection never hurts.  But the transmission over the internet can get broken up or choppy due to peak hours [...]
