Not Long In My World
It is my belief the new tenants won’t be around after 6 months.
Upon my return, I introduced myself to them considering that we’re neighbors now. Their complaint is not with the size of the house nor with all the features. Decidedly they love the heat.
Their complaints: scuff mark on the wall, patch of paint missing, bedroom door doesn’t shut 100 percent of the way and sticks out a little bit . . .
I told them, per their lease agreement, that they are allowed to make a list of these problems and what I repair is my choice. Their list was extensive: over 30 items.
The point when I realized they would not stay long was when the fiance asked me "Are you seriously going to keep that beige color in the living room or are you going to change it?"
The manner in which the question was asked, along with the curled lip of disgust, lead me to believe this "knit-picking" was probably lead by her. If I tore the house down, rebuilt a brand new house with state-of-the-art everything, she would complain.
In the end, it’s alright. If they chose to abandon this absolutely horrible house with this atrocious living conditions then that’s ok. They can do so at the end of 6 months. Someone else will be found.

The creativity of people never, ever ceases to amaze me.

Your opinion please.
Ugh.. get rid of them…. Reminds me of my tenant from he11. Everything was wrong, wall colors, carpet.. blah blah blah, I finally told them they were gone…
Geeze, 30 items? What a pain in the a$$.
Welcome back, btw. ;o)
Oh my… don’t like that type of tenant, at all~! Blah
They should be so lucky! Every place we ever rented had white walls, linoleum in the kitchen and bathrooms, formica countertops, ugly 70’s lighting fixtures, etc. etc. We would’ve loved a place like yours!
Richard, it’s been my experience that the “knit picky” type, while they may complain, won’t do damage to the house. So unless they really complain, I’ll keep them until they no longer wish to stay.
Steph, thanks! Getting the 30 item list was a real “welcome back” present. Ugh.
Connie, I have two sets of tenants like that now. Just keeping my head low when they come around.
Paty, there will always be that group of people that no matter what you do they will never be satisfied. I just consider myself lucky in that I’m just the landlord and not the future husband.
