Lack of Heat
Life in the back house is not that bad. Glaring exception being the complete lack of heat.
Before leaving on vacation, I asked the electrician to verify the thermostat was connected to the heater. Upon my return the heater had been completely shut off. Not knowing if there was large, catastrophic malfunction I waited on trying to re-light the pilot. So he was called first thing on Monday.
Clifford: I noticed the pilot light wasn’t lit and was afraid to do something.
Electrician: Yeah it went out when I tried to adjust it.
Clifford: So you just left it? It’s quite cold in that house.
Electrician: When did you get back?
Clifford: Saturday.
Electrician: Why didn’t you call?
Clifford: Why didn’t you re-light the pilot?
The next "lack of heat" stems from a non-functioning hot water heater. The pilot can be light and the heater can be heard working. But getting the hot water into the house is impossible. Almost as if there is no pressure at all in the tank.
Lord Google tells me I’m completely hosed. New hot water heater.
Against my better judgment, I called these clowns. In my heart of hearts I know they will drum up some stupid excuse as to why they refuse to cover the hot water heater.
Clifford: What do you mean it’s not covered?
Insurance Scammer: Because of the moon.
Clifford: The moon?
IS: Yes, the gravitational pull of the moon is not covered as an excuse under your insurance policy. That will be $55 please.

I finally found a program that works for me.
In AHS’s defense, I use them for every property I own, including my own personal home. I’ve had nothing but the best experiences with them; disappointed to hear you’ve experienced otherwise.
American Home Shield is known as one of the worst home warranty companies in the industry. No agent I know will recommend them to their buyers. That’s probably why they have turned to the mortgage servicers to advertise. Almost every month I get an ad for them in one of the mortgage statements.
Your situation may have been made worse by the renovations. I think if you review your policy, you will probably find that the work you did voided the policy.
Water heaters are cheap, but they are a high margin item for plumbers, because they have you over a barrel. Natural gas makes it difficult for even the handy homeowner to DIY.
Fight the good fight for all of us that were ever stuck with an AHS policy, and post the news from the battlefront.
Volleyhart, I’ve used AHS 4 times now. Each time has ended with completely frustration. AHS always finds a way not to pay for services and then charges me for them not doing work. I don’t believe that’s right. I don’t believe that’s fair.
AI, the battle is not looking good. It’s been 48 hours and no response at all from AHS nor a plumber.
