Little Old Lady Strikes Again!
Posted on December 6, 2007 - Filed Under Housing |
Maybe it was the fear of being locked out of my house. Or the fact the city bureaucracy was involved. Perhaps I was tired of packing clean underwear every time I left the house, not knowing if entry would be possible upon my return. In any case, the lack of communication about the eviction became annoying.
The Real Estate Agent was apprised of the events. His response: if the police locked my house, I was to call him and we would sue the city. I was stunned. Not because he suggested a lawsuit but the manner in which he said it. It was as if he had said "Hey Cliff, let’s get a beer."
He advised me to call the City Attorney.
Finally my call was received and responded to by a human being!
It appears Little Old Lady started proceedings to get Jailbird booted off the property back in April. Somehow, she forgot about this when she sold the units. It was never mentioned to me nor the Attorney’s Office.
It only took the city seven months to serve the eviction papers.
That means the eviction is off. Taking clean underwear when I leave the house has halted.
It’s a shame. An opportunity was missed. If I hadn’t called, the police would have locked me out of my house and lawsuit would have ensued. I wonder how much the damages would have been. Ten thousand? Maybe twenty? If I showed up in court with a neck-brace, maybe fifty thousand?

It always amazes me the different permutations and endless ways in which things can go amiss when you start investing in real estate.
There are all the obvious ones involving the property itself, but then the less than obvious ones like your potential “eviction”.
Which I guess is good, as there’d be little money to be made from investing in real estate if it was simple, transparent, and easy, as everyone would do it.
*7* months??!!
BWAHAHAHA!
It only took city hall *3 weeks* to call a committee and change an ordinance so they could charge us $350 for building permits… (one of the benefits of living in a small town, I suppose
