Exterior Painting “Do it yourself”
Posted on October 22, 2007 - Filed Under Housing |
"Did you get any paint on the house?" my neighbor asked.
Standing on the front porch roof, my paint covered body resembled a character from Braveheart. Except I don’t have long hair. No skirt either. My right hand held not an axe but a roller brush. My left did not posses the head of a slain enemy but a bucket of paint.
Over the past 8 days, I’ve been expressing my "Renoir" tendencies. Painting. After escaping the 9 to 5, two hours of day light remain for me to accomplish something.
During these brief work periods, my neighbors suddenly appeared and introduced themselves. Few subjects of conversation: (1) thank me for painting the house (2) tell me the sorted history of my latest purchase (3) introduce themselves.
I guess some members of the Crips rented out the back house a few years back. Probably explains the gang symbols on the door. Also every tenant was heavy into drug production. I’m wondering if maybe this was a question asked on the rental application as a source of income.
These last few days I certainly have been thankful I didn’t rent a sprayer. The Santa Ana Winds have been blowing. No paint would have successfully made it onto my house.
The good news: the house is starting to come together.

Standing in between the two houses, I was staring at the street.
