Lowes Kitchen Cabinets

Lowes Blonde Helper: Um, that will be $9,500. Installation will be another $3,000.
Clifford: Well just spank me with a wooden spoon!
For the kitchen, I decided to go pre-fab. Using the pre-fabs from Home Depot is unacceptable. A Home Depot kitchen looks like . . . . well a Home Depot Kitchen. Thanks to the generous amount of "flippers", Home Depot Kitchens are popping up everywhere and are as easily identifiable as furniture from IKEA.
For the record, I hate Home Depot and Ikea. (here, here, here and here)
Lowes has a wonderful selection of kitchen cabinets. Some are carried in stock and some are special order. But they are all pre-fabricated. The idea is to save money.
During my window shopping, I saw this Caldwell style of cabinets. And per the pretty little picture at Lowes, a 10 foot by 10 foot kitchen was $4,000. This new project has a kitchen which is 8 foot by 12 foot. The dimensions are similar ergo the price should be similar. I had budgeted $3500 for cabinets so my mission was to get the price down. Reducing the price $500 via negotiation would not be difficult.
BUT
$9,500 for material + $3000 for labor? That’s $12,500! For crying out loud my other cabinets were $14,500 and they were custom made!
Blonde Helper must be smoking dope.
But Mikki has convinced me to give Home Depot one more try.
If you liked that post, then try these...

As we learned yesterday, Lowe’s basic kitchen standard is based on 10′ x 10′, which is literally for two walls of cabinets. It is not based on the the square footage of the room.
In that sense, you need 12′ x 8′ x 12′.
The price of $205 per linear foot is what you should use for comparison.
Stock shelves are probably $35-50 per linear foot.
But remember you get 10% off! LOL
Have you tried mom and pop kitchen cabinet places? I’ve always thought they would be more expensive than HD or Lowes, but sometimes they suprise me.
BTW, Isn’t Mikki installing the cabinets???
Kenric, it would definitely be cheaper to have Mikki install them! But there’s still a labor cost for installation.
Last time, I used a mom & pop shop and that nearly drove me to drink!
But I am going to poke around. I can’t believe that LA only has 1 or 2 cheap cabinet places.
Soooo, I guess the $613.92 I just spent on cabinets for the kitchen and two baths at our House 8 was a good deal, then? And, I paid roughly $400 to have them installed. LOL! I’d bet we’re talking about different classes of houses here.
Trisha, How in the world did you only pay $613 for cabinets? Different classes of house: mine is for big people, yours is for Holly Hobby.
Holy cow! Where?
Honestly, i don’t understand how somebody can hate IKEA. I have recently purchased some awesome pieces there. And that wasn’t that expensive, especially that I’m expecting a cash back check from my credit card company
