The soles of my shoes

Posted on February 12, 2007 - Filed Under Housing |

Sunday morning, I curled up on the couch with a hot cup of papua new guinea and some Ray Brown Trio.  Why?  Because it rained.  And I love it when it rains.

Life is good.

Ten properties came across my field of vision last weekend.  Some had great potential.

When I bought the first houses, I didn’t have much of a choice on the location.  My options were limited; my purchase was dictated more by price than by neighborhood.  This time, neighborhood would not be a limitation.

Several possibilities were located in really nice neighborhoods.  Rather than inspect the houses themselves, a local survey was required.  Why?  On resale, down the road, the factor of neighborhood "sketch-i-ness" needs to be eliminated.  I want the potential buyers to be bowled over not by the house alone but by all the surrounding houses as well.

Potential Buyer:  Oh I love this neighborhood!
Clifford (doing Jedi Mind Trick):  Yes you do.  You will give me all your money!

A survey on foot really connects one to the neighborhood.  Yes, you could drive.  But then there are distractions by petty little things . . . like that tailgater or the annoying radio commercial or the hot cup of Harbucks, which is now in your lap.  Grandma’s calling?  Better get that cell phone strapped to your head!

I digress.

Where was I?

Walking.  Just make sure your shoes are comfortable.  No high heels.

Trust me.

The next question:  Could I do something within a month to increase curb appeal?  With the first houses cleaning the yard, hacking down the bushes and putting a new coat of paint worked wonders.  Could I do that again?

Indeed.
