SFX: Phone Rings
Voice: Hello?
Clifford: Hello Tenant, this is Clifford calling. How are you?
Tenant: I’m doing good! How about yourself?
Clifford: Hot. This heat is killing me.
Tenant: I hear ya! I think I’ve got 5 fans going in the house.
Clifford: That is a lot!
Tenant: Yes it is. So what’s up?
Clifford: Well, I’m glad you asked. This afternoon I came home and I found some strange guy drilling all these holes into the outside of the house.
Tenant: Uh-huh
Clifford: I asked him what he was doing and he said he was installing a bunch of stuff for you.
Tenant: Oh yeah. I asked him to put in a flag pole, a couple of wind chimes, a screen door, and some venetian blinds on the backside of the house.
Clifford: The backside too? Well, I told him to stop.
Tenant: Why?
Clifford: First off, I put a lot of work into these houses. I don’t want people coming around and drilling holes into my work. Second, you can decorate the inside of the house how you see fit. I told you the back-yard was yours to do with as you wish as long as the changes weren’t permanent. But hanging stuff on the exterior of the house . . . no.
Tenant: Well I didn’t think it would be any problem . . .
Clifford: I wish you would have asked me first. Anyway I told the man to stop, I’m going to have the handyman take it down and patch the holes.
Tenant: Can’t I keep the screen door?
Clifford: That’s not a problem. I was going to replace mine and install a matching one on your house. But the rest will have to come down.
Yep, I’m an evil bastard.
I guess this wouldn’t bother me so much if I was keeping the houses long term. However, I’m not. I don’t want anything hanging on the exterior of the houses that isn’t already there.

Evil? No.
Usually tenants know not to put holes in things they don’t own. Or if they do, to patch them when they leave. Drilling into exterior wood is neither a good idea nor as easy to patch as drywall! Either can lead to water damage and or bugs.
Adding a decorate piece of (permanent) hardware like a screen door seems like something you’d want to ask about! If only to make sure that the tenant and landlord tastes and budgets are aligned.
This. . .after you failed to provide her with a working bathroom of her own for a week. Personally, I’d move out. You are an evil bastard. . .
What is odd is that she gives me evil glances now. I’m feel like some kind of parent that grounded their teen-ager from going to a concert! I just keep being nice, saying “hello”. She responds by turning and walking away.
