Lump Day

This was coming.  I could see it happening.

Since this is my first "investing" project, I’ve had to swallow my pride and take my lumps.  And today, was another "lump day".

The cabinets are getting installed.  The guys are working.  Someday, someone will explain to me why 3:00 p.m. is an acceptable hour to start working.  But that’s another conversation for another time.

Today, I asked the installers if they were ready for the appliances to be delivered tomorrow.  Panic fell upon them like bubonic plague.  The leader pleaded with me to give them another day.  I told them that their boss, Cabinetman, said the appliances could come on Wednesday with no problems.  Then it hit me.  These guys are in the trenches.  There’s one thing I’ve learned in my years of corporate America.  The guys in the trenches really know what’s going on.

The thought of having the appliances come, on schedule, occurred to me.  After all, these guys started 5 days late.  Why should I further jeopardize my schedule because of the lacking of others?

After chatting with a good friend, I came to realize that this is the nature of the business.  These guys start late and finish late.  I needed to be a little more flexible.  I want them to do a good job.  More importantly, I want them to finish unfettered.

I called Lowe’s about the delivery.  That, in itself, is another story . . .
