Along the path

A lady I worked with passed away.

About four months ago, I really got a chance to learn more about her.  She, with her husband, owned several four and six-plexes.  She told me a few weeks back that they had purchased an apartment building.  Talk about moving forward!  She had her kids as the managers of her rental properties.  What better deal could you possibly have?

She was as generous with her time as she was with her knowledge.  She told me where I could get free paella on the weekends.  She helped a friend of mine create the best paella he ever made!  She told me where I could find the freshest lamb.  She gave me ideas on how to improve my dinners at "Chateau de Clifford".

I told her about my obsession with foie gras, which she shared.  My stories of my cooking classes in Paris captivated her.  In fact, the day before she died, she asked me if she could interview me with regards to those very classes.  I said sure.

She also insisted that I bring something in after my next trip.

I will do it.

As I get up there in years, I never stop to think about whether 50 is old or if 60 is old.  At the age of 62, she still had 20 good years in front of her.  But the unexpected happened.

Death is not an enemy but a companion; a companion who travels with us and reminds us that we only live once.

You’re a good woman Carolyn.  We will all miss you.

I thought about this last night and decided to put it out there.

A wonderful tribute. From the short time it took me to read this, I felt I had known her myself.

She sounds like a wonderful lady. I wish I could have met her.
