Adverse Effects

I’m always asking "What’s next?"

I love that.

When I ask that question, it means that something has been accomplished and I’m ready for the next objective.

I asked my real estate agent that question while sitting in his office.  With the refi coming, I was wondering what the next logical step was after that.  We discussed, at lengths, about turning the kitchen into a gourmet kitchen.  After all, the two things that people look for in a house are the kitchen and the bathroom.  The bathroom doesn’t need anything.  The tile is great.  The kitchen needs some serious work.

The interesting aspect of the conversation came when we started talking about the increasing property values in my area.

Clifford:  "It’s going too slow.  I wish I could just sell these places, take the gains and move on."
Agent:  "I could sell your house now and you’d get about $XXXk more than you paid for it."
Clifford:  "Really?"
Agent:  "Yes.  A property right around the corner from you sold for $XXXk more than you bought yours."  He pulls listing up on computer.
Clifford:  "That house on 22nd street?  Yeah, I saw that was for sale.  That’s incredible!"
Agent:  "But the kitchen in your house MUST be redone.  When you get your refi, take that money and get your kitchen redone.  If you want primo bucks for your house then you have to have a primo house."
Clifford:  "January, the kitchen gets my undivided attention."

I’m sure that conversation is something that everyone in California has had at some point in time.

But this actually had an adverse affect on me.

Since that conversation, it has been increasingly difficult for me to motivate myself to go to work.  In a way, I’m glad I had that conversation with the agent.  It has made me feel better.  But it has also deflated my interest in continuing my daily job.  It feels that I don’t have too "work" if I don’t want to.

No, I have no intentions of quitting my job at this moment.  The time isn’t right.

The only difference from before is that now I do see light at the end of the tunnel.  And the light is good.

"Walk towards the light . . ."
