The Expo

Posted on August 5, 2005 - Filed Under Housing |

At the behest of a friend, I went to the "Expo" in Huntington Beach.  Best way to describe it is Home Depot but twice the cost.  Lots of great stuff in there but my god!  It was an powerful reminder of how my life is a cubicle style paycheck right now and not a board room paycheck.  But that’ll change.

The kitchen layouts were excellent.  I gleaned many great ideas.  One idea I liked in particular was the hidden dishwasher.  The front of the dishwasher was blended to look just like the rest of the cabinets.  You would never know it was there unless you opened it.

Dishwasher Can you spot the dishwasher in the photo?  I think you can click on it and see it bigger size.  It’s not the same one I saw at the Expo but it’s an idea of what I’m talking about.

My encouraging thought was the appliances, fixers, etc. that I liked didn’t cost a fortune to get.  I’m usually the guy who orders the "market price" item from the menu at a restaurant!

There is one benefit of working in a cubicle environment.  You always know someone who knows everything about one thing.  I’ve been advised to head over to The Great Indoors and Builder’s Surplus.  Builder’s Surplus is suppose to be awesome with it’s prices.  But they’re all in Irvine and I’m now in the LBC!  But the distance may be worth it.  I just learned that taxes in LA County are hanging at 8.25% whereas in the OC they’re at 7.75%.  When you’re talking thousands of dollars, it adds up quickly.

I hate paying taxes.

If you liked that post, then try these...

This deal between the Loan Officer and the Real Estate Agent is quite cool.

The Great Indoors is owned by Sears, and Sears has a price match plus 10% policy, so if you find a good sale at Great Indoors, take that price to Sears and see if they’ll give you a dealio. Also, don’t forget about Ikea!
